Rachel Sykes, M.Ed., MHC
OUTPATIENT THERAPIST
I am a mental health counselor at Maria Droste Counseling on a part-time basis. I graduated from Bridgewater State University with a M.Ed. in Mental Health Counseling. I entered the counseling field after over 25 years in the investment management industry, where I obtained my MBA from Suffolk University and earned the right to use the CFA designation. I am also a certified yoga instructor and reiki practitioner and have been teaching yoga since 2009.
I have experience working with individuals, both adults and children, couples, and families. I gain great satisfaction from seeing clients overcome anxiety, depression, and trauma and develop a strong sense of identity, autonomy, and confidence. When working with couples and families, I focus on building healthy communication skills which can then be used to address core issues, including trust, forgiveness, equity, and respect. I am honored to work with clients across all cultures and strive to offer unconditional acceptance and respect without judgment.
I consider myself an Adlerian (psychodynamic) psychotherapist, as I believe in the importance of early childhood and family experiences in forming one’s unique and private beliefs and style of life. I also draw upon a range of theoretical orientations including cognitive behavioral, person-centered, feminist, and family systems theory, as well as my study of mindfulness, in order to address the individual needs and concerns of each client.
