We believe that storytelling has the power to change lives. That’s why we are honored to welcome Liam Martin as this year’s featured speaker at our 2026 Fashion for Compassion event.
Liam is an Emmy Award–winning journalist and mental health advocate whose career has been defined by empathy, authenticity, and a commitment to telling meaningful stories. Over the past 15 years in television news, he has anchored for WBZ-TV and reported for WCVB-TV, covering everything from historic moments to community tragedies with compassion and clarity.
But one of Liam’s most powerful stories is his own.
In a deeply personal essay for Boston Magazine, Liam shared the difficult journey that led him to step away from what many would consider a dream job as a morning anchor at WBZ. While balancing the demands of a high-profile career and family life, Liam found himself facing a serious mental health crisis driven by anxiety, depression, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
For months, he struggled in silence—something many men are conditioned to do.
As he says: “Men are increasingly grappling with the serious question of work-family balance. But unlike women, men aren’t talking about it enough.”
When he finally shared what he was going through with his wife, her response reshaped his perspective: “The strongest thing a person can do is ask for help.”
With support and therapy, Liam made a courageous decision to prioritize his mental health and his family. He stepped away from the newsroom and began a new chapter as co-owner of Newsmaker, a communications and media company that continues his passion for impactful storytelling.
Today, Liam uses his platform to encourage more open conversations about mental health — especially among men and fathers who often feel pressure to hide their struggles. His story reminds us that vulnerability is not weakness; it is strength.
Beyond his professional work, Liam is a devoted husband and father, a youth sports coach, and a proud Boston sports fan who is deeply engaged in his community.
We are grateful that Liam will bring his voice, experience, and advocacy to Fashion for Compassion. His message reflects exactly what this event stands for: breaking stigma, building community, and expanding access to mental health care.
Join Liam and us on May 19 at Granite Links as he helps lead an evening where fashion, compassion, and community come together for a powerful cause.
